Harnessing CD8 + T?cell exhaustion to treat type 1 diabetes

چکیده
Although immune interventions have shown great promise in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) clinical trials, none are yet routine use or able to achieve insulin independence patients. In addition this, the principles of T1D treatment remain essentially unchanged since isolation insulin, almost a century ago. is characterized by deficiency as result destruction insulin-producing beta cells mediated autoreactive T cells. Therapies that target beta-cell antigen-specific needed prevent T1D. CD8+ T-cell exhaustion an emerging area research chronic infection, cancer immunotherapy, and more recently, autoimmunity. Recent data suggest exhausted populations associated with improved markers both inhibitory receptors. This review aims identify which receptors may prove useful induce treat limitations gaps current literature.

متن کاملHarnessing the immune system to treat cancer.
A major challenge for the immune system is to recognize and eliminate cells undergoing carcinogenesis. Immune defense against tumors is complex. It can be mediated early by the innate immune system (i.e., phagocytes, NK cells, NKT cells, cytokines, and complement proteins) and later by the adaptive immune system (i.e., B cells and T cells). The eight articles in this Review series on tumor immu...
متن کاملHarnessing memory adaptive regulatory T cells to control autoimmunity in type 1 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) results from autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing β-cells in the pancreatic islets. There is an immediate need to restore both β-cell function and immune tolerance to control disease progression and ultimately cure T1D. Currently, there is no effective treatment strategy to restore glucose regulation in patients with T1D. FoxP3-expressing CD4(+) regulatory T cells (...
